Yesterday I went to pick n pull because a 78 courier was there, which I believe has the 2.3 in it. Someone already yanked the motor But I noticed that they left the mounts that are welded to the frame. Is there any difference in the front end of the later courier frames from the first gen? Or can I cut the mounts off that one and weld them onto my 74 so I can easier mount a 2.3? Thanks for any input

Well this is certainly too late to be helpful here, but for anyone else reading this later: Yes, if you can cut the frame mounts off a 2nd gen that came with a 2.3, it will make your life easier for mounting a 2.3 in your 1st gen

I know this is an old thread, but something to be aware of: the 2.3 is a bit taller than the 1.6/1.8/2.0 Mazda engines. You run into hood clearance issues swapping a 2.3 into a first gen truck, so be ready for those. Nothing that can't be worked out, but hopefully this prevents an unwelcome surprise...
