Hey, how does a guest even have posting privilages? My 81 B2000 FSM also has the "count the links" in the procedure but the new timing chains wont have these links highlighted. Put the motor at TDC (note there is also a retarded timing mark on the crank pulley, use the correct one) both keyways should be straight up for reference. There will be a tick mark on the lower cog at about 5:00. Your double marked chain link ends should straddle this (you can mark the chain if aftermarket, just put a scratch with a file on 2 consecutive links and then count 44 links FROM THE FIRST MARKED LINK---PAST THE SECOND and then count 44 CCW and make a single scratch mark on the 44th link end. So scratched link is 1, 2nd scratched link is 2 and the single scratch is on link end 44 COUNTERCLOCKWISE. Now it doesnt matter where your crankshaft rotation is (up to 180 degrees), you can straddle the tick mark with your double links and then rotate the cam cog to match the single marked link end to the dot on the cog. Keyways straight up will put this at 3:00 with motor in truck. Installing the tensioner without the little OEM clip is a mofo, you have to manipulate the little ratchet latch to compress the tensioner and then release it once installed.
