New here! I recently bought a 1984 Ford Courier that I’ve daily driven for a few months now, recently the engines blown and am looking to replace the block or the entire engine, it has a 4cyl 2L carby which is great to run but I’ve been thinking about other engines or possibly switching to fuel injection. If anyone knows any good engine options (besides FE’s) carbureted or not it’d be a massive help.
Cheers!

As far as fuel injected goes, the 2.5 out of the ranger would be a good fit. Carbureted, the 2.3 Lima was a factory option. The 2.3 is in the pinto, mustang II, turbo in the Merkur, and in the 77(78?) Courier and on. If your going to get one with mustang II Headers, make sure the pipes go into the collector in the right order to fit between the transmission and the frame rail.
If you want to get real crazy, I've seen a 302 in the engine bay. Nice thing is there's plenty of room for a V8. Depending on funds available I think it would be interesting to see a W12 or w16 if it fits. It all depends on if your trying to keep it close to stock or turn it into a race truck.
Esslinger has race parts available for the 2.3 and the 2.5 if your interested in that. The 2.3 is still used in sprint cars so there's at least some kind of aftermarket for it. As far as I'm aware you COULD do a carbureted 2.5 by changing out the connecting rods of a 2.3 but I'm sure it's more involved than that.
