Ok, so the previous owner of my truck didn't think weather stripping was necessary, they also didnt think filling rust holes in the body was a good idea either, so the water collected under the carpet and under the coating for the floor pan and rusted the hell out of it. I fixed a gaping hole as well as some smaller ones. I also cut out the old rubber flooring and insulation and scraped out the rubberized coating under that, leaving just a little paint and metal. I'm going to use some Herculiner to recoat the floor after I wire wheel it. I'll update as soon as I'm done, but I think the herculiner (bed coating) is a good way to go.

Well, I found out this hot San Diego weather causes the coating to soften, making it like soft chewing gum on concrete. Waiting for cooler weather makes it chip off in quarter sized pieces.

Got some work done today on the floor pans, its been a long process because I only have a few hours out of the weekend to work on it. The colder weather, a big screwdriver and a piece of wood used like a mallet seemed to work the best  It exposed some good holes that I had to cut out and weld up   Obviously, Im not completely done welding holes on the passenger side |

On the drivers side, I patched all the holes, primed and started the Herculiner process  The first coat it looked a little uneven and the vertical areas didn't cling so well, but after 3 coats with a brush and roller, it started to look a little better. I waited about 2-3 hours between coats to make sure the next coat had something a little tacky to stick to, which seemed to work really well.  Still have more cutting, welding and coating to be complete and then on to the new insulation and carpeting, so more pics to come. |
