Will a 78 5 speed bolt up to a 74 first gen motor? Thanks

It's a straight bolt up to the engine, but you need to make a couple of other mods.
Cross member won't line up and good luck finding the one that will work - I tried and couldn't find one. But some flat steel stock and a little welding and drilling and the original cross member served.
Also you will need to shorten the drive shaft because the 5 speed is longer than the 4 speed.
And finally, be sure you get the release bearing lever from the five speed. The one I got didn't have it and the 4 speed lever didn't fit and again I had to make with the grinder and welder to make the old part work with the new trans.
Totally worth it though.
