Hey all,
Just curious what pitfalls to look for with the stock 1.8
Are they reliable enough to stick with and what are the known issues related to these? Thanks!

If you cut the head to clear up any corrosion on teh gasket face, youll need to get a head spacer as there is an oil jet in the block that goes into a shallow receiver in the head and if you cut the head, the oil jet will bottom in that receiver and prop the cut head off the gasket, and you will have a leak on passenger side betweeen distributor and #1 plug or worse youll crack the head torquing it down. Other than that, they are pretty reliable, but a bit gutless.

I'm getting ready to have my cylinder head rebuilt - or there are some rebuilt heads on ebay I figured I could assemble and just bolt on. How do I know if I need this spacer?
