Hey, I'm new on this forum and I have questions. Should I beef up the original engine? Or should I buy a whole different engine for my 1976 Courier? And how do I go about it, either way? This was my dad's truck, and I remember it not having much power going up hills. Long story but this truck has been sitting for years, I need to get it going but my dad's mechanic is not making it happen yet.

Not too many speed parts that I know of for the little 4 banger. This guy makes headers for it, but he only does money orders or checks, no credit cards or paypal. www.powerbyace.com/Catalog%20page/Headers.htm You could probably do some head work and swap the carb for a weber 32/36, although I just did the weber thing (per the recommendation of other posts on this site) and I'm having some trouble getting it to run right (can get it to idle great, but it falls on its face when I step on the gas, I'm sure its something I'm doing wrong, but just cant figure it out yet). On the same website, they also make V8 (SBF) conversion mounts for the engine and transmission (C4), that was my original plan for my Courier, just can afford it at the moment. Other people swap the motor for a 2.3 Turbo from, I think, a 90s mustang. I am more familiar with the 302 V8 than anything that has a turbo on it, plus I love would that V8 sound coming from a tiny little truck. Btw, not too many people check this site, so responses are super slow. You might get more/quicker responses from the Facebook page.

Do you have to worry about smog since it's a 76?

Picked up a 1978 courier- decent shape with a 4 banger and stick shift. Looking to swap a ford 302 Gt motor + 4 speed top loader. I'll be looking at early mustang motor mounts and rear 7 3/4 ring leaf spring, etc.. Anyone out there did this swap yet?

heard this guys mounts are worth it www.powerbyace.com/Catalog%20page/Engine%20swap%20components.htmTons of people have doe this swap and plenty of other combs. hooker use to make a swap kit and you might find one out there somewhere. I'm collecting parts for this swap now. I've considered just welding in a engine plate and solid mount it.

Those that want to ditch their 2.0 Mazda motor give me a hollar. Im stuck with the 82 2.0 here in CA and I can use some spare parts! Looking for an uncut head in So. Cal.
>>>> UPDATE<<<<< My head is good, I had a few other issues that I found when I tore it down, ie #4 exhaust seat was cut 3 degrees off and was not even sealing, 4 new intake guides needed, a crushed head locator tube on #4 intake corner was not allowing the head to seal and early 1.3mm pistons rings on a later 1.5mm piston! The header is not worth it if you can get the 82 FED model round port exhaust manifold as its a 4-2-1 header already with paired 1-4, 3-2 ports to dual down tubes to the convertor. You cant get much better than that for torque.

you can do a 302 swap IF you transfer all the smog crap off the year of your 302 and make them work in your chassis. It must be 78 or newer as you cannot retrofit an older motor (ie no smog) in your smog cert vehicle.
