Here's a photo of the engine compartment as she sits right now. Still a bit of work to do, but it's getting there. (always assuming that I remember how to insert a photo!)

Not sure if that was the best way to put in the picture, kinda small! But it'll have to do for now. Right click it and select 'view image' and you'll see it larger.

And here's the in-car video from May 2018. 102mph, best the car has ever done.
Note the tach, shifting at about 6,500 which is pretty high for these motors. Went through the timing lights at about 6,000rpm. Tried pushing the shift point to 7,000 later that day and blew up the motor. Not going to post that video ;-).

Depends on how it runs at El Mirage in May and June. If it's fast, I plan on racing Bonneville.

Got everything put back together over the weekend and started tuning . . . and then heard the bottom end rattling! Looks like when I blew the head gasket back in '18 I also cooked the rod bearings. So Out the motor comes this weekend and we'll see if just a fresh set of bearings and rings will do it, or if it's back to the drawing board. Super bummed!

I have the crank at the machine shop right now, new bearings and rings are already here. I just have to check to rods and make sure I didn't beat them up too much, if so I have a set in another engine that I can swap in. The block looks fine and I've got it cleaned up and honed the cylinders, etc. With a little luck I'll be putting the engine back in next weekend and still make the race on May 1st. I'll try to remember to take some photos while I'm putting it back together, plus post a few of the damage I found. Problem is that this means that my first race run will be the shakedown / break-in run which isn't ideal. Maybe I can play hooky from work on the 27th or 28th and go out for a test and tune day.

Here are a couple shots of what I found when I opened it up. That glitter all over everything is the remains of the #1 and #2 rod bearings - OUCH!

Well, I managed to get the engine re-assembled. Had to replace almost everything. Grind the crank, new oil pump, new timing gears and chain, rods were too beat up to re-use without extensive work. In short it was a real mess. But I got everything put back together and running with a few days to spare. Even so, I had to use round one of racing for an engine break-in run because the engine only had about 5 minutes on it by the time I got to the event. Here's the crank and pistons when they were ready to go in.
But all the last minute hard work paid off. Even without a full break in, with the AFR showing that I was running about two points too lean and short shifting it by 1000 rpm, the old girl ran a best ever of 105.680 MPH! Should be able to add a few miles per hour to that at the next meat by getting the jetting set properly and putting a few more miles on the engine.
